Architect Bucks Economic Downturn To Celebrate Tenth Anniversary

A local architect is bucking the recession and celebrating ten years in business.

Bingley-based R. Dawson Architect was established in 2002 by chartered RIBA architect Richard Dawson and specialises in ‘green’ architecture and sustainability issues.

Over the years the company has worked with a wide range of clients including church organisations, developers, resident groups and private individuals/families.

Recent projects include planning permission for a new croquet pavilion at Ben Rhydding Sports Club; the conversion of derelict shop units to new retail premises and self contained flats on Kingsway, Bingley; the conversion of a detached house to a private dental practice in Menston and an extension at Wibsey Rugby League Club.

The company’s knowledge and expertise includes new homes and commercial premises; home extensions and alterations; re-modelling, retrofits and refurbishments; designing accessible buildings for disabled people; planning submissions for solar thermal and solar electric (PVs) for listed buildings and conservation areas; and building regulations consents and negotiations.

Richard Dawson is a former chairman of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Yorkshire region.  In 2010 his work was nominated for the Yorkshire & Humberside Microgeneration Award (domestic category).  Throughout his career Richard has also been nominated for a series of other urban regeneration awards.

As a member of the Access Association, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience in designing buildings for accessibility and can provide access audits which analyse and inform how buildings should be adapted and used.

Richard comments:  “In today’s economic climate, I consider reaching my tenth anniversary as quite a significant milestone.

“I’m extremely grateful to all my clients, past and present, for the support they’ve shown me over the years and the wide range of interesting projects they’ve asked me to work on.  I’m looking forward to building on the success I’ve enjoyed to date.”
